Chatham Baseball U8/U9 Summer Travel Baseball Tryouts for the 2013 Season
Chatham Baseball has scheduled tryout sessions for all eligible U8/U9 baseball players* who are interested in qualifying for a position on a travel team for the 2013 summer season. The tryouts will be held at Mountainview field/gym on Tuesday, May 14th and Thursday, May 16th from 4pm-6pm each day. Participants are expected to attend both sessions and be on time. Please have your child check in outside the gym door. Pick up will be in the same place.
Registration to participate can be done on the Chatham Baseball Website Registration Page, and must be completed by May 11th. There will be a $10 fee to help pay for the evaluators, and other associated costs. Travel baseball players must also participate in Chatham’s Recreation baseball program.
Each of the two Travel Tryouts will consist of one hitting session in the gym, and one fielding/throwing session on the baseball diamond. Because of the two different playing surfaces, participants should bring one pair of sneakers and one pair of cleats to the tryouts.
Travel Baseball rosters will be determined based on player performance in the batting and fielding tryout sessions, combined with the player’s past travel season coach’s evaluation if applicable. If sufficient numbers of qualified players are available in a particular age group, multiple travel teams may be formed.
The season begins in mid-June and players must be available to play or practice potentially every day through July 31. Players should put off taking vacation during this time. Before the season begins, players must also be available for practices beginning as early as late May (Recreation baseball will remain the priority while it is still in session.) If a player cannot fully commit to the summer program, he should not try out for a team.
In advance of the Tryouts, Chatham Baseball will conduct Pre-Tryout Warm-Up Sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday the week prior (May 7-9) from 6pm-7:30pm each evening, also at Mountainview field/gym. These sessions are not mandatory, but please note that only Travel tryout registered players will be able to participate. You must already be registered for the May 14/16 tryouts in order to attend these warm-ups.

*As a rule of thumb, U8 players are completing second grade and U9 players are completing third. However there is an official cut-off date for players who wish to play out of grade. Please see the About Travel Baseball Page for more details on Age Determination as well as more information on Chatham’s Travel Baseball program.
