2021 Buddy Baseball Registration

Buddy Baseball Registration Now Open!

This year Chatham Baseball will begin our sixth year of the Buddy Baseball program.  Opening day will be April 17th, 2021.  As of today, we anticipate getting the green light from the town to host this season of Buddy Ball with appropriate COVID safety measures in place.

About Buddy Ball

The Bambino Buddy-Ball Division was established by Babe Ruth baseball for players ages 5-19 who are either physically and/or mentally challenged.  Buddy Ball allows challenged or special needs athletes to develop confidence and positive self-esteem.  It allows them to be part of organized sports and assists with physical fitness as well as their social skills.

Buddy Ball is designed to give everyone a chance to play baseball and have fun.  This division makes allowance for a “buddy” to help the player swing a bat, round the bases, catch a ball, etc.

Game Details

All Buddy Ball games will be held on Saturday's at 4:45pm at Lum Field for 1 hour and 15 minutes.  Sessions will include a 45 minute practice followed by a 30 minute game.  The season will end on Saturday, June 5th.

"Buddies" will primarily consist of high school-aged baseball players and will be coordinated through the Chatham High School Sports Buddies Club.  If you are interested in becoming a buddy, please contact Michael Arens at   or Matt Saluzzi at  .

Based on current guidance, we anticipate the following safety protocols to be in place:

  • All participants will be required to complete a COVID waiver prior to the start of the season
  • All participants will need to complete an on-line quesionnaire on the day of the game (prior to game time)
  • All athletes will be asked to wear a mask when they are not on the field.  Once on the field, athletes have the option of removing their mask
  • Buddies will be required to keep their masks on at all times
  • Temperatures will be taken at the field using a handheld thermometer.  Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 will not be able to participate that day
  • As we are outdoors, families will be permitted to attend, however we ask that they maintain 6 feet of separation from other spectators
  • We will have plenty of hand sanitizer available during the games!

The above protocols are subject to change based on guidance from teh Chatham Rec Department.

Please click HERE or visit http://www.chathambaseball.com and click the "Online Registration" button.  Registration is open to Chatham residents until March 26, 2021.

Registration fee is $50/player to cover the costs of baseball hats, shirts, end of season awards and end of season party.
